Of Princesses and Peas

There has recently been a huge hoopla about gender nuetrality and gender stereotyping. While I definitely think it is a healthy approach, letting boys occasionally  play with kitchen toys and girls with Tonka trucks, I also think it's ok to let your girl be the girliest girl she wants to be and your boy be...well...just a boy!

My 6 year old has a severe case of what I like to call "Princessitis". She is currently Queen Elsa of Arendale, she informs me in a haughty tone...I literally "bow" to her wishes. She wants me to do an elaborate curtesy everytime I address her...I watch closely as she performs the requisite curtesy and yes...before you ask...I am crazy enough to follow it through! She wears my new blue dupatta like a train and I merely remind "Her Majesty" (as she naturally expects to be called) not to let her train dip into the toilet bowl when she goes pee-pee!

Now some of you may call me crazy for indulging her like this, but I say "why the hell not!". Kids these days are fast losing their innocence due to an ever increasing exposure to the outside world and if I, by "indulging" her thus, help her hold on to her childhood just a bit longer, I say again "Why the hell not!"
After all she is 6 just once in her life.  Now if she insists on wearing a tiara to high school when she is 16, rest assured I will definitely NOT indulge!!! But till the time comes when she herself,  is ready to let go of her childhood (which I suspect will not be too far away)... I am going to let her have free rein of her imagination and to a minor extent, my wardrobe.

Now, if you will excuse me,  I need to go to the Royal Bedchamber and put a pea under "Her Majesty"s mattress,  so that she can test for herself whether she is a true princess or not!
